Jack Bruce began his four-year term of
office on The City of Jonesboro Council in January 2014. In March 2014, as a newly elected official, he
participated in municipal leadership training courses and was awarded a
certificate from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute for Elected
Officials, operated jointly by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and the
University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. In June 2014, he participated in and
completed additional training courses at the 2014 GMA Annual Convention
entitled “Excellence by Design.”
In order to help create a vision
for the City of Jonesboro, in
the spring of 2014, Mr. Bruce, along with other councilmembers and the Mayor,
participated in the City Planning Retreat conducted by Gordon Maner, Senior Public Service Associate of the Carl Vinson
Institute of Government. Mr. Bruce
served on the committee for the 2014 Jonesboro Days, which for the first time
was held in conjunction with the Southside Music Festival. In addition, Jack served as Chairman of the
2014 Jonesboro Christmas Parade and Festival.
Jack Bruce was born in Atlanta,
GA., and moved to Clayton County in 1972, where he has lived since. He lives with his wife, Mary Q. Bruce, on
Church St., in Jonesboro. Their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
whom they love very much, live throughout our great nation. Before retiring in
2012, Jack Bruce’s business was located in Jonesboro from 1985, where he was CEO
of VSP, Inc., doing business as Georgia Siding and Soffit Co. and AAA Income
Tax Service.
Mr. Bruce is an active member of
First Baptist Church of Jonesboro (FBCJ). He is a member of Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County; serves on the
Board of Directors for Clayton County Greenspace Committee; a veteran of the U.
S. Navy; served on the Board of Directors for the Jonesboro Housing Authority
and was a Department Director and Outreach Director at FBCJ. He also served on
the Bi-Centennial Committee for Jonesboro; and is Past President of Tara
Kiwanis Club, PTA and Band Parents Association.
