CITY OF JONESBORO
COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 08, 2008
The City of Jonesboro Mayor and Council held the monthly Council meeting on Monday, September 08, 2008. The meeting was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Jonesboro Police Station, 170 South Main Street Jonesboro, Georgia.
Council Present: Luther Maddox, Mayor
Clarence Mann, Councilmember
Roger Grider, Councilmember
Wallace Norrington, Councilmember
Billy Powell, Councilmember
Rick Yonce, Councilmember
Bobby Wiggins, Councilmember
Staff Present: Janice Truhan, Chief Wayne Rowland, Joe Nettleton, Brad Johnson and
Sandra Meyers.
Mayor Maddox called the meeting to order. Prayer was given by Councilmember Yonce, and the Pledge of Allegiance followed.
Minutes of the August 11, 2008 regular meeting were considered. Minutes were approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd:Powell, Vote: Unanimous].
The third in a series of three (3) Public Hearings was held regarding the 2008 Millage rate. Comments were made by Nancy Kaufman and Annette Harris.
Presentation was Made of Proclamation for Constitution Week. Mayor Maddox presented a proclamation proclaiming September 17, 2008 officially Constitution week.
Mayor Maddox requested a motion to enter Executive Session. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Powell, Vote: Unanimous].
Mayor Maddox called for a motion to Resume the Regular meeting. [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote: Unanimous].
The Council considered the following items A – G on the Agenda:
A. Considered approval of the approval of Stephen Fincher as City of Jonesboro Attorney of
Record. Approved.[Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote: Yea – Grider, Powell,
Norrington Wiggins, Yonce. Nay: none; Abstain: Mann].
B. Considered Home Based business T & P Tire Service – Patricia A. Ray of 607 Fayetteville
Road. Approved. [Motion: Mann, 2nd: Wiggins, Vote: Unanimous].
C. Considered application for Alcohol license – Amysam Inc. DBA The Marathon located at
155 South Mc Donough St.
Sarfaraz Salim owner. Approved. [Motion: Grider, 2nd:
Norrington, Vote: Unanimous].
D. Considered Resolution for 2008 Millage rate Rollback to Zero (0) Mills. Approved.
[Motion: Grider, 2nd: Powell, Vote: Yea
– Powell, Mann, Norrington, Yonce;
Nay:
Wiggins].
E. Considered approval of lowering Fire Station Community Room(s) rental deposit fees
from $500.00 to $200.00
– refundable. Approved. [Motion: Norrington, 2nd: Wiggins,
Vote: Unanimous]
F. Considered adoption of Golf Cart
Ordinance. Approved. [Vote:
Yonce, 2nd: Norrington,
Vote: Yea – Grider, Powell, Mann, Norrington, Yonce; Nay – Wiggins].
G. Considered approval of Fire Funds spending request of $2,709. as submitted by committee
rep Ed Wise. Postponed. [Vote: Grider, 2nd: , Vote: Unanimous]
The Council considered Other Business:
Mayor Maddox called for other business.
The Mayor stated that will be a covered dish supper held at the Jonesboro Firehouse
Museum Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.
The monthly Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held September 15, 2008 at 170 South
Main Street Jonesboro at 6:30 p.m.
The monthly concert will be held September 20, 2008 on the Courthouse lawn. Frankly
Scarlett will perform.
