COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

MAY 12, 2008

 

 

The City of Jonesboro Mayor and Council held the monthly Council meeting on Monday, May 12th, 2008.  The meeting was held at 7:00 p.m. at the Jonesboro Police Station, 170 South Main Street Jonesboro, Georgia.

 

Council Present:       Luther Maddox, Mayor

                                    Clarence Mann, Councilmember

                                    Roger Grider, Councilmember

                                    Wallace Norrington, Councilmember

                                    Billy Powell, Councilmember

                                    Rick Yonce, Councilmember

                                    Bobby Wiggins Councilmember

 

Staff Present:            Janice Truhan, Chief Wayne Rowland, and Joe Nettleton.

 

Mayor Maddox called the meeting to order.  Prayer was given by Councilmember Rick Yonce.  Pledge of Allegiance followed.

 

Minutes of the April 14,  2008 regular meeting were considered.  Minutes were approved.  [Motion:  Grider, 2nd: Powell, Vote:  Unanimous].

 

Mayor Maddox called for meeting public comments.  Public comments were made by Beverly Lester.

 

The Council considered entering Executive Session.  Approved.  [Motion:  Norrington, 2nd: Yonce, Vote:  Unanimous].    The Council considered resuming regular meeting.  Approved.  [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote:  Unanimous].

 

The Council considered items A – G on the Agenda:

 

A.        Considered Mayor Maddox and City Clerk to sign a Resolution for Meals on Wheels, donation of $1,000.  Approved.  [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Wiggins; Vote: Unanimous].

 

B.        Considered adoption of plan for Warrant Entry Service on GCIC.   Approved.  [Motion: Mann, 2nd: Grider, Vote:  Unanimous].

 

C.        Considered creating Corporal position in the Jonesboro Police Department.  Approved.  [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote:  Yea: Grider, Powell, Mann, Norrington, Yonce; No: Wiggins].

           

 

D.       Considered adoption of revised S.O.P.  Approved.  [Motion: Grider, 2nd:  Norrington, Vote:  Yea - Grider, Powell, Mann, Norrington, Yonce; No: Wiggins].

 

E.         Considered approval of Flag Ceremony at the Cemetery.  Approved.  [Motion: Wiggins,

 2nd: Norrington Vote:  Unanimous].

 

F.         Considered approval of Parade Permit – Jonesboro Masonic Lodge, July 04, 2008.

 Approved.  [Motion: Norrington, 2nd: Grider, Vote:  Unanimous].

                       

G.        Considered approval of two G.M.A. lease supplements, to finance budgeted purchase of

            2008 F150 & F250.  Approved.  [Motion: Grider, 2nd: Norrington, Vote:  Unanimous].

 

Mayor Maddox stated that there was a Covered Dish Supper, 6:00 Thursday at the Jonesboro Firehouse Museum and Community Center, and a Neighborhood Watch program meeting is to be held May 19th, 2008 at 170 South Main Street at 6:30 p.m. 

 

The Mayor also stated that Saturday, May 17th - Jonesboro Days will be held at the Jonesboro Firehouse Museum at 103 West Mill Street with a Concert on the Courthouse lawn that evening.
